“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Georgia is the Kremlin’s obvious desire to preserve its zone of influence and not give up its historical patrimony,” says Yuri Sergeev. – People’s opinions are not taken into account. The basic principle of the UN Charter – respect for territorial integrity – is being ignored. Instead, the Russian authorities are manipulating another principle of the charter – the nation’s right to self-determination. This is how “independent” Abkhazia, South Ossetia, annexed Crimea, frozen conflicts in Transnistria and Nagorno-Karabakh appear.”
