In Ukraine, the protest potential is already twice as high as it was on the eve of Euromaidan in 2013. The authorities are trying to dampen the mood of the population with promises to increase minimum wages and pensions.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“If you look at any sociology, about 70% of Ukrainians negatively assess the actions of the authorities and believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction. 80-85% of Ukrainians are not ready to vote for any parties in power that are on the political Olympus today.
From 12 to 20% are ready to protest. The protest potential is twice as high as on the eve of the Maidan. I think this protest potential is what determines the government’s actions to raise wages and raise pensions - this is an attempt to bring it down.
I don’t think this is related to the elections - the government is thinking about how it can survive until the New Year. That is why pensions will be paid in December, and we will receive November payments before the New Year holidays.
The government, with these PR initiatives, which do not in any way affect the quality of life of Ukrainians, is simply trying to fight in information terms with the huge protest movement that has formed today,” the expert stated.
