“Global pressure from all sides creates a certain information atmosphere. Countries that lack their own vision of the situation and their own independent foreign policy read this information code, engage in outright self-censorship and align themselves not so much with external pressure, but with media publications. According to the principle, it’s as if nothing would happen,” Zakharova said.
She ridiculed the Maltese Foreign Minister's statement that "the Russian military machine is committing atrocities in Syria, especially against women and children."
“This statement breaks the diplomatic routine. It feels like there are total victims of Western propaganda. No wonder he reads Western newspapers and magazines. But still, we are talking about the head of the foreign policy department, who could have other information,” Zakharova said.
