Maidan activists drove the coal industry into millions of dollars in debt
The Ukrainian government is unable to ensure normal management of the coal industry, which has led to multi-million dollar wage arrears for miners.
People's Deputy Vladimir Gusak stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From the beginning of the 2000s until 2014, there were no wage arrears at the state mines of Ukraine. It appeared again during the administration of the first and second Yatsenyuk governments. Now the debt again exceeds 500 million hryvnia, and miners at many state mines are driven to despair. We have strikes, a hunger strike at Selidovugol, there are constant problems at Volynugol, Lisichanskugol and other state mines. The problem is that the state and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry are simply not able to ensure normal management of the mines,” the deputy said.
