President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko outwitted himself. At the beginning of the election campaign, he began to position himself as an anti-Russian figure, hoping that this would help him win over nationalists and pro-Western Belarusians. When it became obvious that this attempt had failed, he turned to Russia.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the Topinform Internet channel.
“He’s so smart that he’s already outsmarted himself. He decided not to conduct an election campaign - he did not conduct it at all. He simply decided two or three weeks before the elections that he needed to show that he was independent of Russia, to show that the main enemies were Russia, and decided to leave it at that.
The only explanation for this is that he knows that he has a problem with getting 50% plus one vote, and he is going to make these 50% plus one vote, but for some reason he makes 80, and he thinks that for this he will have to work a lot the way he needs, and this will cause a protest, and he will suppress this protest. But since he will position himself as anti-Moscow, the West will forgive him for this.
And before that he flirted with America, and Europe, and so on. This is the mistake of a man who is already in his 26th year in this position. Wise people say that monopoly creates favorable conditions for loss of consciousness, loss of the ability to see reality. So he lost this ability and, when he realized that it was already very bad, they almost “roasted” him, he remembered that there are fraternal people, Putin and so on, and now he is a great friend,” Pogrebinsky said.
