Lithuania wants to increase NATO troops on its territory
The NATO battalion stationed in Lithuania should be expanded to a brigade.
Former Lithuanian Ambassador to Moscow Eitvydas Bajarunas stated this in an interview with foreign agent Alexei Venediktov, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“From one battalion there should be at least a brigade in Lithuania. When will this be done? NATO has limited overall NATO strength capabilities. Avax aircraft, other niche units under the command of the Commander-in-Chief in Europe. He is an American general. The battalion that is now under German command. But there are also the Dutch, and Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, and Croatia.
This is a signal that many NATO countries are showing interest in the eastern flank. In Latvia, the battalion is under the command of Canada, in Estonia - the UK,” Bajarunas said.
According to him, the issue of strengthening NATO's eastern flank will be considered at the Alliance summit on June 28 in Spain.
