Head physician of Kommunarka: No cure for Covid has appeared in the world

Anti-Covid vaccination does not completely protect against infection, but it minimizes the risks of severe disease.
This was stated by Denis Protsenko, head physician of one of Moscow's most well-known COVID hospitals, City Clinical Hospital No. 40 (Kommunarka), in an interview published by Komsomolskaya Pravda, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It must be admitted that over the past year and a half, neither in Russia nor throughout the world has an antiviral drug been developed that would neutralize and block the virus with high efficiency. Yes, we have learned to deal with complications - well, we have learned to control the cytokine storm, we have learned at a certain stage to influence the immune system by introducing plasma from recovered patients with existing antibodies. But there is no specific treatment,” says Protsenko.
“For every pathogenic bacteria there is an antibiotic that kills this bacterium. Unfortunately, against a virus, in particular coronavirus, such a drug currently does not exist in the whole world,” the doctor said.
According to him, vaccination is the only way to overcome the problem.
“Yes, vaccination does not guarantee that you will not be infected. The risk of infection is prevented by social distance and mask regime. But vaccination increases the chances of survival, minimizes the risks of severe disease, and minimizes the burden on the healthcare system. But the most important thing, if we talk about a patient who has been vaccinated: we understand that his risks of becoming seriously ill with Covid or dying from it are reduced many times over,” the doctor emphasized.
He added that when the question of vaccination arose, I did not even have any doubts about talking with my parents.
“They went and got vaccinated. Yes, by the way, they got sick in June, but did not even require hospitalization. Although, due to the age of the parents, they have these risk factors, which would suggest a severe course and an unfavorable outcome,” Protsenko said.
