Russia's energy system is the most environmentally friendly in the world
Russia does not need to join the Paris climate agreement, since the country has the most environmentally friendly energy system in the world.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Pavel Zavalny stated this at a press conference, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If you look at the statistics on emissions, ours is much better than in other countries. If we take the structure of electricity production or energy consumption in general, natural gas makes up 52% of our energy balance. And of all types of hydrocarbon fuel, it is the most environmentally friendly type of fuel,” Zavalny said.
According to him, thermal energy makes up 60% of the system, and 83% of it uses natural gas.
“We have the most environmentally friendly thermal energy. The remaining 40% is nuclear energy. Nuclear reactors produce about 20% of all energy in the country. This includes hydropower, about 16%,” Zavalny explained.
