The former head of the SBU said that the United States owes its security to Ukraine

During the negotiations on Ukraine's nuclear disarmament, which took place in Kyiv and Washington in the 1990s, the Ukrainian leadership believed in security guarantees in the event of abandoning nuclear weapons.

This was stated on Facebook by the former chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine Igor Smeshko, who, in his own words, witnessed the negotiations, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Not only the first two presidents, but also the top military-political leadership of Ukraine sincerely believed in real security guarantees for Ukraine, which were provided to it in accordance with the signed Budapest Memorandum,” he wrote.

According to Smeshko, “there is no other state in the world other than Ukraine that would have made a greater historical contribution to thus ensuring real security and defense of the United States.”

“Ukraine still remains the only country in the world that voluntarily destroyed the third largest nuclear potential, the strategic component of which threatened primarily the United States of America,” assures the former head of the SBU.
