Statistics on coronavirus infections in Ukraine are inadequate because this country does not have the necessary equipment to take a test - instead, laboratories use sticks to take bladder tests.
The president of the All-Ukrainian Union for the Protection of the Rights and Safety of Patients, Viktor Serdyuk, stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“How can we assume that in Ukraine, say, 5590 people infected with coronavirus have been identified, based on what? Based on polymerase chain reaction? But excuse me, it is definitely impossible to make PCR tests accurate in Ukraine, because, as it turned out, in Ukraine there were no commonplace sticks for collecting samples for PCR.
PCR is an accurate thing, but in order for PCR to find, it is necessary to introduce a sample of the virus and take it correctly, take it on the right stick and transport it correctly, and only then will we find it. But what we find now, what determines the PNC, is impossible to say now,” he noted.
The social activist also said that sticks for collecting PCR have not yet been brought to Ukraine, but sticks that are intended for the bladder are used.
“Because there are simply no sticks, this is a problem that no one has solved yet. Certified PCR sticks have never been imported to Ukraine; there was only small humanitarian aid.
And now, at best, they use urogenital sticks that detect infections of the urinary system - they are inserted into the nose, a rather unpleasant procedure, because there is a brush at the end, but this is the best there is,” Serdyuk was indignant.
