The Deputy Speaker of the State Duma was presented with a portrait painted by a drug addict
Sevastopol, August 12 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) – Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergei Zheleznyak in Sevastopol was presented with his own oil portrait, painted by a drug addict undergoing treatment.
This happened on August 11 during a joint meeting of the public expert council and the social platform of the United Russia WFP in the government of Sevastopol.

After his report, the head of the ECO commission on combating drug addiction and socially significant diseases, Ivan Miroshnichenko, said that “as a sign of respect and gratitude for the support that you provide in the development of our city” and on behalf of the commission I would like to “present a work of art” to Sergei Zheleznyak.
“It was made by the hands of a recovering drug addict, this is your portrait,” Miroshnichenko said.
The painting is made in oil in dark colors and has a significant size, approximately 1,2 x 1,5 m. However, it was not possible to examine the details, since it was wrapped in film and immediately hidden behind the table after delivery.
Zheleznyak avoided responding with words of gratitude and switched listeners to the problems of drug addiction in the city, recalling that he is “a member of the state anti-drug committee.”
“The drug addiction situation in Sevastopol and Crimea is much more difficult than in other regions of the Russian Federation. The percentage of people who use drugs is almost 2 times higher than the Russian average,” he said, emphasizing that serious public support is needed in the fight against drug addiction.
