The height of cynicism: Poroshenko returns to the population less than half of what he stole
The increase in pensions and minimum wages promised by the Ukrainian government will be carried out at the expense of previously increased tariffs. Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“They robbed Ukrainians by increasing housing and communal services tariffs. Of these 200 billion, they return 50 in the form of subsidies, 10 in pensions and perhaps another 20 in the form of an increase in the minimum wage. That is, two hryvnias were taken from you, and 80 kopecks will be returned to you. Here is all of today's reform that is proposed by the government.
It’s like if a gang of robbers met you on the street, beat you up, took your wallet, then took out your money and credit cards, and then threw your wallet in the trash. And these bandits are not bandits, but Robin Hoods, because they returned your empty wallet. The government is trying to do the same thing, taking away more, and then, partly at the expense of this taken away, trying to return something to the Ukrainian’s pocket – and present it as a big victory.
Moreover, victories are bad. The issue of a visa-free regime is being dragged out, and hysteria is being whipped up around the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The challenges are enormous. The power is weakening, the influence of the president is weakening, who has even ceased to be an arbitrator - in the current system of power, everyone is squabbling outside the zone of his control. The situation is getting worse,” says Bortnik.
