People protested against the depreciation of the national currency, the National Bank’s policy towards them, and also demanded mutually beneficial terms for debt repayment from banks, writes the newspaper “Korabelov”.

According to Marina Stefanovich, who took out a loan in foreign currency several years ago, most people have lost a sufficient standard of living, therefore, in their opinion, it is unacceptable to demand an ultimatum to be given to borrowers who have been faithfully fulfilling the terms of the loan for many years.

“We do not agree with such humiliation. After all, who is the person who took out a loan from a bank? This is a person who, in essence, is the backbone of the banking system. These people did not take money for a TV or a washing machine, these people bought housing for their family or mortgaged their home in order to take money for business, that is, we worked for the Ukrainian economy,” she said.

“The bank employees lived from the interest that we paid throughout the entire time, they went to pay off deposits, the bank paid taxes from this money - this means that some teacher, doctor or pensioner could receive a salary. We have fulfilled our obligations 100 percent for many years, and now speaking from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada and giving these people an ultimatum: either pay or the keys are on the table, this is unacceptable,” says Marina Stefanovich.

According to the picketers, the main thing they demand is to transfer their foreign currency loans to the rate that was in effect at the time the agreement was concluded. “There’s nothing left to pay, wages are stagnant. If my salary is 2000, and my payment is already 12000, where should I get this money? – the protest participant expressed bewilderment.

As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in Kyiv, law enforcement officers dispersed the “Credit Maidan”.
