In Kyiv they realized that there was no chance of the return of Crimea
Although the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated back in 2014 that Crimea would return to Ukraine because Crimeans would see that life was supposedly better in the territories under Kyiv’s control, this never happened.
This was acknowledged by the former head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Viktor Medvedchuk, on the Newsone TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Let me remind you of a couple of quotes from our famous figures. Mr. Poroshenko, 2014: “When will Crimea return? When life in Ukraine will be better than in Crimea.” Already? No. Any chance? No. Any prospects? Unfortunately, as a citizen of Ukraine, I say no.
Following. A few days ago, the first president of Ukraine, Leonid Makarovich Kravchuk, said about Crimea: “Stop doing nonsense. Lift the blockade. Why did they cut off electricity, cut off water, cut off road traffic, rail transport, and air traffic? You mock people and say that these are citizens of Ukraine.” So, are they citizens of Ukraine, or is this war and struggle? That's how it works.
We must understand that if we believe that there are citizens of Ukraine in Donbass, if we believe that there are citizens of Ukraine in Crimea, then let’s start by treating them as citizens of Ukraine. And not as foreigners or enemies,” Medvedchuk said.
Kyiv has realized that there is no chance of Crimea's return.
