In Georgia, Saakashvili was sentenced to 6 years with disqualification for 2 years
The Tbilisi City Court found former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili guilty in the case of beating deputy Valery Gelashvili, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“By the judge’s decision, the ex-president of Georgia was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Mikheil Saakashvili was also deprived of the right to hold office for 2 years and 3 months,” the statement says.
It is noted that in the case of an armed attack on and beating of Georgian parliament member Valery Gelashvili in 2005, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is accused of exceeding his official duties with the use of violence and organizing the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm.
Along with him in this case, former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ivane Merabishvili, former head of the Special Operations Department Erekle Kodua and former head of the same department Gia Siradze were brought to justice in this case. Convictions were made against Merabishvili, Kodua and Siradze in the mentioned case.
In particular, the court chose imprisonment for a period of 6 years and 9 months for Ivane Merabishvili, and for a period of 9 years for Erekle Kodua and Gia Siradze.
In Georgia, Saakashvili was sentenced to 6 years in prison with a 2-year ban on his rights.
