US exercises in southern Ukraine: Prevent Russia from breaking through a corridor to Transnistria
Large-scale exercises between the United States and Ukraine “Sea Breeze” opened in the south of the former Soviet republic, the maneuvers cover three regions – Nikolaev, Odessa and Kherson.
If we recall Mikheil Saakashvili’s repeated statements about Russia’s plans to create a land corridor to Transnistria, we can assume that during the “Sea Breeze” the allies are practicing actions to disrupt a hypothetical Russian offensive.

Today, the coastal phase of joint exercises with the United States and other NATO countries began at the Shirokiy Lan training ground in the Nikolaev region. And in the port of Odessa, the American destroyer Donald Cook and the frigate of the Ukrainian Navy Hetman Sahaidachny have already moored in the port of Odessa, awaiting the sea phase.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed that the main theme of the exercises is a multinational operation “to ensure security in a crisis region”: “The main stages of training will be the deployment of a multinational headquarters, basic training of ship personnel, training of coastal units in training blocks in the areas and practical actions of the forces.”
More than 1,5 thousand military personnel from 12 countries, 18 warships, boats and support vessels, 14 airplanes and helicopters, up to 25 units of armored and automotive equipment, and up to 500 military personnel of the marine corps and ground units are taking part in the exercises between Ukraine and NATO.
