USA: Ukraine is threatened by a military coup
The recent adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the Law on National Security and Defense, under pressure from the West, was prompted by US and NATO concerns about the possibility of a military coup in Ukraine.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now I may not be expressing a very popular opinion, but the law appeared on the horizon after a meeting with the US Secretary of Defense. It seems to me, and my colleagues who work in the West, share this opinion - both the United States and NATO think that there is a risk of military coups in Ukraine, that Ukraine is a very weak state in its structure, and the role of military and militarized groups in the background The crisis in Donbass is growing.
There is a risk of a military coup. That is why the basic goal was to weaken the influence of the military on politics, on law, on the state, and, ultimately, to prevent the emergence of the Egyptian, Turkish or other similar scenarios.
But it seems to me that we have moved too far from the basic idea, and today this control is much lower than it was before,” the expert noted.
