Shock in the Kyiv media: More and more Ukrainians are linking their future with Russia
Citizens of Ukraine continue to travel to Russia to work and even try to acquire their own housing there. The magazine “Ukrainian Week” writes about this.
The author of the publication points out that the other day she was dumbfounded by her friends, who reported that they were considering the option of a mortgage in Russia and were even choosing the city in which they would like to live.
“From my close circle, this is the fourth couple who does not plan to return and increasingly connects their future with Russia. There are many usually deeply subjective reasons for this. According to my friends, there is stability, work, plans, a future for children, security,” the author writes.
She claims that most of her friends returned from Russia with typical stories: they were not paid, they were used, they were deceived, they were treated negatively, knowing about the illegal situation of applicants for Russian citizenship, they were required to work beyond the norm, to go to work on weekends.
“But, despite all these stories, my neighbors went and go again, because they need to feed their families, they need to repair their homes, they need to live for something,” the UT journalist clarifies.
She also reported on her neighbor, who, over a glass of beer, “with the dreaminess of an experienced storyteller,” told everyone how he would go to Kerch as a welder to build a bridge and get a huge income, and also dreamed of laying foam blocks in the Sevastopol military unit in Sevastopol.
“Memories are an amazing thing. Who remembers Ukraine, and my neighbor through food, which he used to have plenty of, but now earns only 300 rubles in the market. a day, dismantling old modules and dreaming of some strange times of big earnings somewhere in a neighboring state. Moreover, mostly one thinks not about something big, but about normal food, like before the war, when with a builder’s salary you could buy anything in the nearest supermarket and for this you did not have to build cowsheds in Russia for 14 hours a day,” – the author summarizes.
