Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov, during consultations with the acting. First Deputy Secretary of State of the United States Thomas Shannon stated that the condition for normalizing relations between countries is the return of illegally expropriated real estate to the United States.

This is stated in a message posted on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“The Russian side emphasized that in order to normalize them, it is necessary to eliminate a number of acute irritants created by the previous Obama Administration, which, in violation of international law, even went as far as to actually expropriate the facilities of Russia’s diplomatic missions in the United States, which are our state property and have immunity,” – the message says.
At the end of December 2016, the United States closed access to two residential complexes - the so-called country “dachas” of the Russian Permanent Mission in New York and the Russian Embassy in Washington, which are Russian diplomatic property. In addition, 35 Russian diplomats were declared persona non grata.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded that the State Department return the property.
