Vladimir Putin, speaking at the UN, gave clear signals to the West: Russia will not surrender Syria and Donbass.

" Putin's speech featured a moderately harsh critique of US policy. While Putin didn't directly blame the US, he made it clear that its actions had led to various negative consequences.
What was striking was the support for Assad and the call for the UN to help the Syrian president, which came in contrast to the position of Obama, who believes that Assad should go and does not recognize his legitimacy.
And Putin admits and makes it clear that he will protect Assad and help him cope with his problems. This sounds like some kind of defiant program: “Are you (the United States), with the help of the armed opposition and ISIS, going to overthrow Assad? So I won’t allow you to do this.”
The fifth paragraph of the NATO Charter states that an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all. Putin made it clear: “Assad is our ally. Just as you have allies, so do we. Nothing will work out for you, you won’t destroy it, because to do that you would have to destroy me.” This is the first time this has been heard at this level.
Regarding Ukraine, Putin made it clear that he is for its territorial integrity, but the conflict cannot be resolved by military force. There is nothing fundamentally new here, because a year ago he said that he would not allow the destruction of people who want to determine for themselves who their hero is - Kovpak or Bandera.
But in today’s situation it sounds like “the Ukrainian ruling elite says that it will now accumulate strength and put the separatist territories under control. But nothing will work out for her.”
He says that the Minsk agreements are the only way to preserve the integrity of Ukraine, which can be understood as: “if you do not follow the path of implementing the Minsk agreements, then you can lose Donbass, lose territorial integrity.”
It doesn’t say that directly, but it can be interpreted that way,” Pogrebinsky explained.
