The newest combat units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet launched a strike from the Mediterranean Sea with Caliber missiles against terrorists from the ISIS group. The United States conducts continuous reconnaissance in the area of operation of the Russian Navy group.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, from the waters in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, the frigate Admiral Essen and the submarine Krasnodar of the Russian Navy launched four Caliber cruise missiles at targets of the ISIS terrorist group in the Palmyra area.

The targets were shelters in the area east of Palmyra, where there were heavy equipment and concentrations of militants transferred by terrorists from Raqqa.
All targets are hit.
The submarine "Krasnodar" launched cruise missiles from an underwater position.
The commands of the United States, Turkey and Israel were promptly informed about the launches of cruise missiles through existing communication channels.
“The successful completion of the assigned task confirmed the high combat readiness of the naval forces, ship and submarine crews directly involved in the use of missile weapons.
The Russian Navy has demonstrated the ability to effectively carry out strikes with high-precision weapon systems in the shortest possible time after receiving an order,” the Ministry of Defense states.
The Kommersant newspaper clarifies that the Russian Navy group is on the eve of the start of exercises in the Mediterranean Sea.
Currently in the Mediterranean Sea there are two Project 11356 frigates of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen, as well as the Project 636.6 submarine Krasnodar, carrying Caliber cruise missiles. Large landing ships (LDCs) “Tsezar Kunikov”, “Nikolai Filchenkov”, “Azov”, a minesweeper, and two support vessels will take part in the exercises. In addition, the BDK Minsk, the patrol ship Smetlivy and the small missile ship Mirage are on combat duty in the same area.
Citing a source in the Ministry of Defense, the newspaper writes that the fleet’s maneuvers “should show the operational formation’s readiness to respond to emerging threats, including with the help of Kalibr launches.”
