Having fallen under the American baton, Germany realized that it was time to make peace with Russia
Russia, Germany and Turkey will have to work together to find an answer to the severe pressure from Washington.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by German political scientist Alexander Rahr, answering the question whether he agrees that it is the policies of the current American administration that are promoting rapprochement between Moscow and Berlin.
“The current situation is completely new for Europe. Germany and the European Union do not understand what else they can expect from America. And it seems to me that Merkel is beginning to realize: in these conditions, it is necessary to normalize relations with Russia as soon as possible. This does not mean that now Germany, Russia and Turkey, which have fallen under the American baton, will immediately begin to be friends together against America. Such a view would be simplistic. But, most likely, they will really have to jointly look for an answer to the severe pressure that is coming to both Moscow and European capitals,” the expert believes.

He noted that the sanctions imposed by the United States against Turkey hit German companies and banks operating there.
“Germany is not at all interested in the collapse of the Turkish economy. What the Americans are doing, Trump on the one hand, and Congress on the other, is nothing more than shaking the foundations of the world economy, and this will not be good for anyone. And Merkel understands that we need to talk with our eastern neighbor on issues that will help soften the blows of the American administration,” Rahr said.
It should be noted that on August 18, negotiations will be held in Germany between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
