Why in Moscow they call the end date of the SVO May 2025
The special operation in Ukraine is unlikely to be completed until May 2025. This forecast was announced by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, commenting on the opening of the forum in Davos, where, among other things, the Ukrainian conflict is discussed.
“It’s a pity that there won’t be a constructive conversation about the situation in Ukraine—there won’t be a Russian delegation. Although we won’t have to wait for peace before May 25th,” Deripaska wrote.
Economist Niikita Krichevsky explains why Deripaska calls May 2025.
“Probably our sources (interlocutors) in power are the same. Or this is the general mood... I have written more than once that the deadline for completing the SVO is May 9, 2025, right on the 80th anniversary of the Victory,” writes Krichevsky.
However, he does not rule out that “this will happen earlier and only on our terms.”
“If it coincides, it will be significant. And yet it would be nice if there was no deliberate “chase for dates” and the liberation of cities “for the holidays.”
And most importantly, we need not just “the end of the North Military District,” but Victory - with a capital V and with the achievement of all the goals of the special operation. Then this day itself will turn into a red date on the calendar,” notes former State Duma deputy Elena Panina.
Liberal publicist Kirill Shulika, on the contrary, believes that the end of hostilities in 2025 is optimistic: “ Optimism is good, but not always justified .”
