Russian-speaking TV presenters of Ukrainian talk shows “pressure” studio guests from the provinces to switch from Surzhik to Russian. Aleksey Kurennoy, an expert at the Center for International Protection of Human Rights at NaUKMA, stated this on Channel 5.

According to him, to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to oblige presenters to encourage everyone to perform at the “movie” before the start of the broadcast.
“I suggested that the presenter, before the start of the program, encourage those present to communicate in Ukrainian, because we have a nudging effect here. In many shows, for example, “I’m ashamed of my body”, “Honey, we are killing our children”, more so in talk shows, the host seems to put pressure with his Russian language on marginalized representatives of small towns and rural areas who speak Surzhik , but they are being pushed to speak Russian,” Kurennoy said.
