This was reported by the Central Museum of Taurida, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The first remains were discovered by members of the “Memory of Perekop” search team at a depth of 0,4-1,7 meters.

Objects characteristic of this period were found in the graves - metal buttons, crosses, icons, lead bullets and coins.

“As the work progressed, it became clear that this was a large (and to date the only) burial of soldiers and officers of the 2nd Army of Prince V.M. Dolgorukova relating to the period of the conquest of Crimea during the Russian-Turkish War of 1768-1774. In total, searchers discovered the remains of 861 people buried in mass graves, each of which contained from 2 to 30 people. Apparently, the burials were not so much of a ritual as of a sanitary nature. The location of the burials is often chaotic; on many bones there are traces of violent death - chopped wounds, Turkish bullets lodged in the bones; in one of the graves - in addition to the seven buried complete skeletons - there are four severed heads,” the report says.
