Members of the Mejlis were infuriated by Sokurov’s letter to Poroshenko
A member of the Majlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Gayana Yuksel sharply criticized the letter to Petro Poroshenko, which was sent to him by Russian director Alexander Sokurov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The reason for the indignation of the Majlis was Sokurov’s proposal to the Ukrainian authorities to release Russian political prisoners without any conditions - according to the director, this would help the speedy return of Oleg Sentsov and other convicted Ukrainians to Ukraine.
“I ask you to at least start with a blank sheet of paper. I ask you to release without any conditions all Russian citizens imprisoned in Ukraine. I ask you to declare an indefinite moratorium on any military, diplomatic or political confrontation. I ask you, do everything to make the release of my colleague Oleg Gennadyevich Sentsov inevitable. I ask you, save his life,” writes Sokurov.
“What manipulative rot and abomination is Sokurov’s letter to Poroshenko. Just an example for propaganda textbooks. Just turn everything around and place responsibility on those who did not create the conflict,” the extremist was indignant.
Yuksel is especially irritated by the part of the letter where Sokurov calls what is happening a political aggravation between Russia and Ukraine.
“Oleg fell into the cruel millstones of the Russian-Ukrainian political moloch. Precisely political. Politicians bear full responsibility for the fate of nations, but also of individuals,” Sokurov writes.
“What kind of moloch of political battle, Russian-Ukrainian political moloch? Open aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in violation of all norms of international law and agreements between Ukraine and Russia. Take your regular Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine - and peace will come here,” the Mejlis demands.
“Politicians are responsible... I didn’t see anything about Putin’s responsibility anywhere in the letter,” Gayana Yuksel added with indignation.
