Slow epiphany: A quarter of Ukrainians are already disillusioned with the EU
A quarter of Ukrainians are disillusioned with the European Union three years after the coup in Kyiv. Such data from a survey conducted by the Institute of World Politics together with GFK-Ukraine were announced at the Ukraine-EU 2017 conference, which was held in Kyiv.

“And a sad figure: every fourth Ukrainian has become disillusioned with the European Union over the past three years. We are talking about 24% of Ukrainians. The majority of those who noted that attitudes have worsened note that this was due to a deterioration in living standards and the deterioration of the country’s economy – 63%. The next argument was: “Because of the desire for European integration, Ukraine has lost territory and continues to fight.” The third most polar argument is 5%, “due to the inaction of the Ukrainian authorities,” noted the authors of the study.
However, according to their data, 58%’s attitude towards the EU has not changed over three years (and among those there were both those who had a positive and negative attitude towards the European Union).
14% of respondents said that they had a better attitude towards the EU after the “revolution of dignity”. They were pleased with the provision of “visa-free travel” and hope for changes for the better.
