Leading researcher at the Institute of Russian Abroad Eduard Popov stated this in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“On September 5, the “Law on Education” was adopted, legitimizing the total strict Ukrainization of all humanitarian policies. The strategic goal of the law is a homogeneous Ukrainian national consciousness. Autocephaly is part of the humanitarian plan,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he is confident that the basis for the local church will not be the UOC-KP, but the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
“It is impossible to form a local Church on the basis of a schismatic group. Greek Catholics have a difficult relationship with the Vatican; they are inferior in numbers even to the UOC-KP. But the UGCC is a more historically rooted and developed structure in all respects than the UOC-KP. Including in terms of ideology. The ideologist and main inspirer of the Euromaidan was the late Cardinal Lubomir Huzar, and not Denisenko,” Popov emphasized.
