10 million population will be enough for an “agrarian superpower”

If Ukraine's goal is to become an agrarian country, then it doesn't need so many people, and the government is indeed seeking to reduce them. Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Andriy Pavlovsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Pay attention to the trend in recent years: they tell us that you have such a wonderful prospect of being an agricultural country. But every novice economist will tell you that there is not a single example in the world of the successful development of a country that relied only on agriculture. We also need at least some kind of processing industry.

How do we want - do we want to enter the EU as a banana agricultural republic? Or do we want to have some modern production facilities, prospects for young people?

Young people want to work in modern, technologically advanced jobs, and not turn oxen's tails and maintain gas pipelines. If we are given the task that we must provide cheap grain for Europe, or maintain gas pipelines, then 40 million people are not needed, 10 million on the territory of Ukraine are enough to accomplish these tasks.

And we see that the population is decreasing all the time for these tasks. Young people are leaving, and thanks to this pension reform, older people will die out en masse and will not receive decent medical care. And this task of bringing the population of Ukraine to 10 million in the next 20-30 years will be within the power of those who set it,” Pavlovsky said.
