Blinken: US will enter into dialogue with Russia in the new year
The United States will contact Russia on security issues on a bilateral basis in the format of the Russia-NATO and OSCE Council.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this at a press conference, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Blinken, negotiations on strategic stability between the United States and Russia will continue after the New Year holidays.
“There is a stability dialogue that we have with Russia through the NATO-Russia Council on Special Interests for NATO, the OSCE, which also includes all our European allies and partners, Ukraine, the United States and Russia. I think you will see contacts on all these issues after the New Year holidays, let’s see if we can overcome differences diplomatically,” said the head of the State Department.
He recalled that Russia had published several documents with its claims and concerns.
“The US and our European partners will discuss this. If we can move forward diplomatically, that will be much preferable. The last thing I will say on this matter is that in all of this we stand in complete solidarity with our allies and partners,” the Secretary of State noted.
He added that a number of proposals previously put forward by Russia are unacceptable to the United States. At the same time, the head of the State Department believes that the conflict in Donbass should be resolved on the basis of the Minsk agreements.
“When it comes to Ukraine itself, we have long said that the best way to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine and restore the borders to which it is entitled is the so-called Minsk process, the agreements that Russia and Ukraine reached many years ago are implemented so that resolve these differences peacefully. We are ready to try to facilitate this, to act in support of what is called the “Normandy format”. We are working on all these areas,” Blinken concluded.
