Over the past five years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have only increased the gap behind the Russian army.
Under the leadership of Petro Poroshenko, the Ukrainian army did not become stronger in relation to the Russian one.
Military expert Anton Lavrov writes about this in Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Petro Poroshenko declared Russia the main enemy of the country. But under his leadership, the national army, despite any slogans, did not become stronger in relation to the Russian one. On the contrary, during this period, for every unit of new and modernized Ukrainian armored vehicles, several were purchased from the Russian Federation. For every obsolete plane or helicopter repaired and painted for the Ukrainian air force, there are a dozen new and modern aircraft that the Russian Aerospace Forces received,” notes the author.
He also points out that while the Ukrainian Armed Forces is trying to master the rather banal experience of counterinsurgency combat operations, the Russian army has been honing its skills in conducting modern network-centric, high-tech warfare in Syria.
“The gap in combat capabilities between Russia and Ukraine has only grown in recent years. Of course, the situation will not improve under another president. The former “fraternal republics” have too different weight categories. But a more realistic view of its capabilities and a reduction in bellicose rhetoric will not harm Ukraine,” Lavrov sums up.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense and National Security, Serhiy Pashinsky, debunked the myth about the supposed successes of Ukraine's military-industrial complex, saying that Ukraine's ceiling is the Dozor armored vehicle and the Molot mortar , not serious modern weapons.
In turn, former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anatoliy Lopata stated that for a successful war with Russia, Ukraine has a lot of effective equipment from the Great Patriotic War and only needs to train the crews and personnel for this equipment.
