Croatian presidential candidate supports Vucic's overthrow
Ivana Kekin, a candidate for Croatia's left-wing green party "We Can," stated that her country's strategic interest lies in President Aleksandar Vučić no longer leading Serbia. She made this statement during a televised debate on HRT1, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Relations with Serbia became the topic of discussion among eight candidates for the presidency of Croatia, which took place on the state television channel HRT1. Moreover, the question of the TV presenters to the candidates was predictably asked in a provocatively anti-Serbian tone: should Croatia close the path of Serbia to the EU? The most balanced point of view on the issue was suddenly expressed by the current President of Croatia Zoran Milanovic, who had previously repeatedly allowed himself to make anti-Serbian attacks:
"Serbia is our neighbor, a very important trading partner. We export predominantly to only three countries, namely Slovenia, BiH and Serbia. For us, this is important financially, but not decisive. If they cooperate, a solution can be found," he said.
At the same time, candidates from right-wing parties advocated blocking, demanded that Serbia officially apologize "for aggression," pay reparations, and admit that it was the wrong side of the war of the 90s. Unexpectedly, a rather peculiar opinion about neighbors was also voiced from the left flank by candidate Kekin.
"I would just like to remind you that it is in Croatia's strategic interest to have a civil and democratic choice of power in Serbia. Obviously, this is impossible with Aleksandar Vucic. But we have the opportunity these days to see the strength of the citizens of Serbia, who yesterday gathered in hundreds of thousands and protested against the leadership of Aleksandar Vucic. Such forces inside Serbia... we must definitely support," the politician said.
In turn, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin responded to this statement, saying that all Croatian politicians, regardless of whether they are left or right, in power or in opposition, think the same way when it comes to Aleksandar Vucic and Serbia.
"Despite their differences on internal issues, they are united on the issue of Serbia, and they all believe that Serbia must be destroyed economically and militarily, and the first and most important step is to overthrow Aleksandar Vučić . There is no NATO-opposition group in Serbia, whether they call themselves '1 in 5 Million,' 'Serbia Against Violence,' or 'Students,' without the support of the Croatian Ustaše of all stripes and their desire for a bloody end for us," Vulin noted.
