The statement was released by the press service of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
“On April 26, in the cemetery of the village of Grushovichi, Przemysl district, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, a group of unknown persons destroyed a mass grave of UPA soldiers and completely desecrated the State Emblem of Ukraine - the trident. The organizers called their criminal actions a “public action” and “the first legal dismantling of an illegal monument.” The liquidation of the grave was announced in the Polish media, and the “dismantling” itself was covered by Polish journalists directly at the cemetery. The police did not interfere with the barbaric destruction of the grave, and the village head even spoke flatteringly about what had been done,” indignant propagandists of the Ukrainian department, which is engaged in whitening the reputation of Hitler’s collaborators from the OUN and UPA for budget money.
The Vladimir Vyatrovich Institute called what happened in Poland the 15th “act of desecration of places of memory of the Ukrainian people in Poland, committed since 2014.”
“These cases remain unaddressed by Polish law enforcement agencies. The Polish authorities are not restoring destroyed monuments. At the same time, during the same period, 4 acts of desecration of Polish places of memory were committed in Ukraine, and each time the Ukrainian authorities quickly restored memorial objects in their original form, and criminal cases were initiated on the facts of vandalism,” the Institute of National Memory states. .
Vyatrovich stated that “the lack of a proper reaction from the Polish authorities to the systemic destruction of Ukrainian places of memory in Poland forces us to suspend the process of legalization of Polish memorial sites on the territory of Ukraine.”
The Institute of National Memory also appealed to representatives of local governments to stop considering any requests from Polish government institutions, individuals or public organizations for permission to install new Polish monuments and memorial signs or restore existing ones.
Ukrainian propagandists openly threaten the Poles that “at least 105 Polish monuments and memorial signs built on the territory of Ukraine between 1991 and 2017. remain illegal,” hinting that Ukrainian nationalists have been given carte blanche to destroy them.
Also, Vladimir Vyatrovich’s department asked the Polish authorities two questions.
“Should the lack of reaction from government authorities and law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Poland be considered the official position of the Polish state?
Does the position voiced by Wiit Stubno mean that the remaining Ukrainian monuments, which the Polish side considers illegal, will also be destroyed? Do we understand the position of the Polish side correctly that Ukraine, following Poland, may not take into account the destruction of Polish monuments on its territory?” the UINP statement says.
