The Ukrainian headquarters complains that Moscow has thwarted the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The recent aggravation of the situation near Gorlovka and the attempt to advance the Ukrainian Armed Forces was just a rehearsal.
The Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” writes about this, citing sources in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) headquarters .
It is noted that, in addition to the existing brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and heavy artillery, several regiments of the Special Operations Forces have been deployed to the contact line in Donbass on the Ukrainian side.
“The SOF regiments are “tailored” for a quick war; they have been trained by instructors from the United States and other NATO countries for three years now,” a senior officer at the Joint Forces Operations headquarters told the publication. – While they are on the second echelon of defense, a few groups of these regiments are used for quick sabotage and reconnaissance raids along the front line and near rear of the separatists. MTR regiments, artillery and tanks were brought up at the beginning of May, a small part of these units took part in the battles near Gorlovka. The promotion there was just a rehearsal. It was like a demonstration performance for the president and the General Staff.”
According to the officer, near Gorlovka the task was to show that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to quickly penetrate the enemy’s defense layers and carry out previously worked out plans to clear nearby bridgeheads and encircle Donetsk.
"But the rehearsal ended in a political scandal – Moscow declared it was ready to 'respond adequately' to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Kyiv immediately backed down. The fact is, everyone understands that if Russia increases military aid, or even directly starts a war with Ukraine, neither the Ukrainian Armed Forces nor the state can afford such a war. We are not prepared to fight on the border of the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, or Sumy regions – Ukraine simply doesn't have enough combat-ready units to wage a full-scale battle with Russia," explained a representative of the Joint Forces Operation headquarters.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, a Ukrainian general stated that if Russia goes on the offensive, Ukraine will defend itself with equipment from the Great Patriotic War.
