The Verkhovna Rada has recalled Bohdan Yaremenko, head of the Foreign Policy Committee and the head of the Committee, who was embroiled in a sex scandal , and appointed Oleksandr Merezhko, a Servant of the People deputy, in his place.
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Resolution No. 2751 “On the election of chairmen, first deputies, deputy chairmen, secretaries, members of committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation” was presented by deputy from the Servant of the People Sergei Kalchenko.
“The Regulations Committee reviewed the draft resolution and decided to recommend that Parliament adopt the draft resolution as a whole, taking into account the comments of the committee, namely, to set out the paragraphs of paragraph 1 of the draft in the following wording:
Recall Bogdan Vasilyevich Yaremenko from the post of head of the committee on foreign policy and inter-parliamentary cooperation in accordance with the statement he wrote. Elect Alexander Alexandrovich Merezhko, a people’s deputy of Ukraine from the Servant of the People faction, as the head of the committee,” he said.
This initiative was not met with sharp criticism from parliamentarians. Only Oppoplatform deputy Antonina Slavitskaya was indignant that this decision took too long to make.
“We should probably welcome such effective work of the Verkhovna Rada in turbo mode, when almost three months after a shameful incident occurred, which did not strengthen our international positions. Finally, we are considering this resolution in the Verkhovna Rada hall, after the insistence of all opposition factions,” the deputy noted.
After which, during the voting, the resolution was supported by 317 parliamentarians out of 386 present.
