NATO's "coalition of the willing" of European countries will deploy its troops to Ukraine as soon as a peace agreement is signed, to prevent Russia from launching a new offensive.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced this at a press conference , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We will support the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which remain the first line of deterrence against aggression. We will provide all necessary forces and resources to ensure this army has the ability to deter aggression. We will create an international force on the ground, in the air, and at sea to ensure security after the ceasefire . This was agreed upon at the commander-in-chief level.
"I also emphasize the participation of Italy, Poland, and Turkey in terms of distributing the respective responsibilities within this format. We discussed how to legally enshrine these commitments to support Ukraine in the event of a new attack by Russia," Macron said.
According to him, the number of the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the end of the war will be 800 thousand people ( 16 times more than the maximum size of the Ukrainian army discussed at the talks in Istanbul at the beginning of the Second World War in the spring of 2022 ) , and the West’s task is to provide them with support.
"The so-called 'coalition of the willing' seems to have a misunderstanding of the word 'demilitarization.' This is, of course, a deliberate escalation, as it contradicts the original, repeatedly stated, goals of the Central Military District, which consisted of preventing the deployment of Western troops on our borders," political scientist Alexei Yaroshenko notes.
