The Ministry of Culture found a reason not to dismantle the coat of arms of the USSR on the Motherland monument in Kyiv
Dismantling the coat of arms of the USSR on the Motherland monument in Kyiv may violate the current legislation of Ukraine on the protection of cultural heritage and on copyright and related rights.

This was stated by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
“In order to prevent violations of current legislation, the issue of dismantling and replacing Soviet symbols on the shield of the Monument must be worked out from the point of view of Ukrainian legislation on the protection of cultural heritage and on copyright and related rights,” the department said.
At the same time, the Ministry of Culture noted that the sculpture “Motherland” was created in the late 70s - early 80s of the 20th century, that is, before the law on decommunization came into force, and is under state protection.
The ministry also reported that the monument was entered in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine on December 16, 2016 as a monument of science and technology of local importance. Interestingly, this circumstance did not prevent the Nazis from demolishing thousands of monuments, artistic mosaics and panels of the Soviet period throughout the country.
Earlier, the Kyiv City State Administration reported that the date of dismantling the USSR coat of arms on the Motherland monument should be determined by the Ministry of Culture.
