The main mistake of Ukraine in 2014 was the refusal to try to bribe the corrupt elite of Crimea. But it was precisely this step that ensured Kyiv’s success in defeating the Republic of Crimea in the early 1990s during the time of President Yuri Meshkov, whom the local parliament went against.
The well-known Ukrainian propagandist Dmitry Gordon stated this on the Nash TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There was a very serious moment in 94, when Russia had already tried to implement the scenario of the annexation of Crimea into reality. Yevgeny Kirillovich Marchuk, who then headed the Security Service of Ukraine, told me about it in detail. Then everything was ready in Crimea - pro-Russian President Meshkov, pro-Russian parliament, short-haired Cossacks, such as a Cossack choir, arrived, the fleet was in full combat readiness. And then the political will of the Ukrainian leadership played its role.
At night, the Alpha group under the leadership of Marchuk, led by General Krutov, flew in helicopters taken from the Border Service to Simferopol and occupied the building of the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which were located in the same rectangle. When the employees of these services came to work in the morning, the Alpha group was already waiting for them. President Meshkov was removed from the peninsula, deputies were brought to Kyiv, some concessions were made, this issue was settled,” Gordon said.
“Let’s name some concessions - this is a question of the Russian language. This question directly appeared in the 96 Constitution,” suggested TV presenter Maxim Nazarov.
“I will upset you. The Russian language is a screen. The deputies were offered specific financial conditions, including conditions, and for financial conditions our deputies and their mother would be sold, not like everything else,” Gordon emphasized.
