The situation with the conflict in Donbass has reached a dead end, and therefore Russia needs to make a serious political decision and recognize the republics of Donbass.

This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy, member of the parliamentary committee on international affairs Sergei Shargunov during the “60 Minutes” TV show, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, Ukrainian shells will fly into the houses of Donbass residents “to a bad infinity” while in Russia “they will be considered Ukrainian citizens.”
“These are not special territories of Ukraine, but these are those brave territories where people, at a terrible cost, at the cost of thousands of human lives, defend their right to independence and allegiance to Russia,” the deputy emphasized.
He said that he had been to Donbass several times and communicated with people in front-line cities and towns.
“I saw people being buried in basements. A little boy told me: “It's scary. All the time bang." I saw a paralyzed old man and people sitting in the basement by candlelight. The woman told me: “We are not rats or mice - tell it up there.” So I’m here now and passing it on up there to those who can make decisions,” the politician emphasized.
According to him, the concluded regular truce is not such.
“You know, this is not a truce at all... I don’t consider these agreements peaceful if people continue to die. We defended Ossetia after the death of several hundred citizens, as the Investigative Committee established, but our people will die here,” the deputy added.
He believes that it is high time for Russia to move away from African standards and move on to the standards of a civilizational country and protect its own, as the French, Americans, and British do.
“Listen, it’s our compatriots, Russian people, who are dying before our eyes. And we treat this as some other reality... When there were the first victims, remember what a shock it was. And at some point this, no matter how scary, becomes an everyday agenda: and over there, somewhere they are shooting... But this is not “somewhere”. I was there and saw it. They wanted “like in Crimea.” They did not come out with Ukrainian flags, they came out with Russian tricolors and chanted “Russia”, then they took the Donetsk administration, the Lugansk administration. They cannot be hostages of this political game indefinitely,” the parliamentarian is convinced.
In his opinion, only a serious political step can solve this situation.
“You can, of course, put it on the back burner, as if based on the interests of high politics, thinking that it will wait, but it will accumulate. There is no smart solution to the current situation, it is already a dead end. A serious political decision is needed here... I am a supporter of recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, I am a supporter of ensuring that everyone there can obtain passports of citizens of the Russian Federation,” stated Shargunov.
