Ukrainian politician - Lukashenko: Stop sitting on two chairs!
By refusing to recognize Crimea as Russian and organize direct transport links with the peninsula, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demonstrates an attempt to sit on “two chairs” and a desire to maintain the emerging “thaw” in relations between Minsk and the West.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Party of Regions Alexei Zhuravko stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Old Man” Lukashenko wanted to sit on two chairs. Of course, the Slavic people live in Belarus, the united people of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. I am sad that Lukashenko has not yet opened direct communication between Crimea and Belarus.
But he is afraid of sanctions from Europe, America and so on. He is afraid that Europe will refuse to issue loans, buy products, and so on. This is the main reason why he did not recognize Crimea as Russian.
I believe that he should recognize the peninsula, launch direct communication - this will allow him to improve relations with Russia,” Zhuravko said.
Earlier, the head of the Belarusian community in Crimea, Roman Chegrinets, appealed to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to organize direct flights and trains between Minsk and Simferopol, but received responses from Belavia and Belarusian Railways, which stated that they did not see the economic feasibility of organizing new flights.
