Ukrainians will have to forget the taste of imported coffee (VIDEO)

Kyiv, February 14 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – In the near future, Ukrainians will have to forget about new foreign cars, as well as the taste of imported coffee.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Andrey Blinov, project manager for the Financial Development League, announced the corresponding forecast at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, in Ukraine it makes no sense to talk about a period of long-term revaluation of the hryvnia or financial stabilization until the issue of a two-hundred-billion (in hryvnia) government finance deficit and a more than five-billion-dollar balance of payments deficit is resolved.

“Based on the trade balance alone, 5,5 billion are leaving the country,” the expert points out. – There is an expectation that this year, if we do not break even, we will reduce this figure to an acceptable value, which can easily be covered by external financing. But you must understand that if over the past year our imports of goods and services decreased by about 26 percent, now we should collectively reach 40–50 percent. Roughly speaking, imports should fall by at least half. And this includes gas. And since we can reduce gas imports by a maximum of 20 percent, then for a number of goods we should reduce them by 70–75 percent, that is, three to four times.”

The equalization of the balance of payments will lead, the analyst points out, to the fact that Ukrainian citizens will have to give up many goods that have become familiar to them.

“Translating into everyday vocabulary, we must understand that Ukrainians will consume little, say, imported coffee, and almost not buy imported cars, especially new ones,” summed up Andrey Blinov. – We will move on to behavioral motives that take us back, rather, to the late 90s. Those who are older remember how at one time it was believed that a person could only buy a used BMW, and buying a new car for 20 thousand dollars seemed very cool. Hopefully for a while, but unfortunately we will have to return to this situation.”
