Ukraine is moving towards legalization
The first international medical cannabis conference will take place in Kharkov on Hitler’s birthday, April 20. This was reported by the organizers - public organizations “Unified Experience” and “Ukrainian Association of Medical Cannabis”.
“The emphasis will be on the medicinal qualities of cannabis. We will demonstrate the opportunities that will open up for Ukraine after the introduction of international experience in the treatment of cannabis into domestic medicine and the legislative regulation of such implementation,” said lawyer Gennady Shabas.
It would seem like an ordinary grant event, organized by people brought up in the West, who have somehow mastered English-language reporting, something like another meeting on the topic of domestic violence or a meeting of the organizing committee for a gay pride parade. However, everything is not so simple. In this case, people and organizations that were respectable by Ukrainian or Kharkov standards joined in the discussion of “dope.”

For example, the National Pharmaceutical University of Kharkov and the University of Medical Sciences of Lithuania. Admission will be free for patients and doctors. Will there be an opportunity for ordinary cannabis consumers to visit there? And will there be a tasting of this product?
The latter, unfortunately or fortunately (as one likes), will not happen for sure, because Ukrainian legislation categorically prohibits work in this direction as promoting drug addiction.
According to the organizers, “medicines based on cannabis effectively help in the treatment of a number of serious diseases, in particular, such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. There is evidence of a positive effect when used in myocardial infarction and in the treatment of arterial hypertension.” In general, smoking tobacco is harmful to health, but smoking weed is politically correct and tolerant.
However, everything would continue to be the same as with normal people. “The use of medical marijuana for military personnel and civilians who have become victims of hostilities in the East of Ukraine is also relevant,” notes the website of one of the conference organizers.
The Ukrainian online publication Update published a personal story of a punisher who told how marijuana helps him cope with the consequences of being seriously wounded during looting actions:
" I'm 29 years old and I'm an ATO veteran. While on a combat mission in one of the volunteer battalions, I stepped on a mine. I subsequently underwent over 12 surgeries and had my leg amputated. ... Marijuana sometimes helps me. When I take a few puffs of cannabis, I manage to shake off the psychological fatigue and distract myself from the unpleasant sensations. I really do feel much better—the accumulated stress dissipates, and I can enjoy my evening. There's also a feeling of incomprehension about the peaceful civilian life after being in combat. I think this feeling is common among many who fought in the Donbas. They smoke marijuana to calm their nerves. It's a shame that most do it, like me—without publicizing it. But sharing a "heel" of weed or giving each other something like a pipe is common among former soldiers. People are looking for a means of rehabilitation, and I don't see anything wrong with them finding it in weed."
So the decision on hemp, opium poppy and synthetic drugs on the territory of Ukraine is overdue and overdue. And it only legalizes the stimulation of political and managerial inadequacy, which would hardly be possible without smoking and intravenous injections. In general, “stupidity” is stupidity.
