Viktor Ukolov, a political strategist serving the interests of the Ukrainian presidential administration, expressed this opinion in a commentary to Kommersant, assessing yesterday's mass protest by Saakashvili supporters in Kyiv.
“Even if the demonstrators really numbered 15 thousand, which I strongly doubt, there is no reason to talk about a new Maidan. Ukrainians do not want new upheavals, they will not follow Saakashvili, who, on the orders of Igor Kolomoisky and other oligarchs, is shaking our statehood. This is not a protest, this is an imitation of a protest. And an imitation of Maidan,” says Ukolov.
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutors among deputies of the presidential faction of the BPP are not so optimistic.
“The main problem of the authorities in the confrontation with Saakashvili is half-heartedness and indecision. Perhaps it was not necessary to deprive him of citizenship. But if he was already deprived, he should not have been allowed into the country, not allowed to demonstratively break through the state border. Perhaps there was no need to detain Saakashvili early in the morning in his apartment on Kostelnaya Street. But if he has already been detained, it is a matter of honor to take him to the pre-trial detention center, and not capitulate to the demonstrators, allowing them to release the prisoner,” said one of the deputies.
“I suspect that this time we will be faced with similar tactics of unjustified concessions,” the BPP representative fears. – Despite the serious charges voiced in the Rada by the Prosecutor General (treason, conspiracy with fugitive oligarchs from Yanukovych’s entourage), Saakashvili may be released under house arrest. That is, he will have the opportunity to remain the leader of the opposition while continuing his destructive activities.”

At the same time, the publication notes that during the Saakashist rally there were several times more red and black nationalist banners over the crowd than official blue and yellow flags.
