The Serbian minister condemned the granting of EU candidate status to Ukraine
The head of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Vulin, condemned the granting of candidate status to Ukraine for accession to the European Union.
According to the head of the department, it turns out that participation in the war is sufficient to begin negotiations, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He noted that if the condition for Serbia to move faster towards the EU would be the start of military action against someone, then it is not worth it.
As the head of the police department emphasized, the European Union has decided to stop pretending that the same rules apply to everyone who wants to join this organization. In his opinion, Ukraine has become a candidate for membership, despite the fact that it does not meet the previously announced standards for all candidate countries, which are so carefully applied to the Balkan countries.
“Kiev, as it turned out, easily overcame several decades of pressure, blackmail and bureaucracy, and it did not have to fight corruption by fulfilling criteria in the field of justice or economic reforms, and there is no talk of cooperation with the courts determining war crimes,” - said Minister Vulin.
He emphasized that the key point in the negotiations was participation in the war.
“I can’t even imagine what the conditions for further admission will be. I hope that Moldova did not have to promise war and that its status as a candidate was approved on the word of honor, without the obligation to fight,” the minister said.
If the decisive criterion for admission to membership or for starting the accession process is that the country is a possible candidate for war, then, he points out, Serbia could have started negotiations as early as 1999.
"However, it appears that such rules do not apply to NATO bombed-out countries; to quickly join the European Union, it must confront Russia ," the minister stated, adding:
“Until yesterday, the EU was not a military alliance, and a state of war was not a condition for starting negotiations, but now we see that this is decisive. If the condition for Serbia to move faster towards the European Union would be to fight with someone, then thank you, it’s not worth it.”
The minister wished good luck to Ukraine, and to North Macedonia and Albania so that they would not have to fight with anyone in order to begin negotiations on joining the European Union, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
