Software developers who supported Western sanctions against Crimea will be excluded from participating in government tenders in Russia, the Izvestia newspaper writes today, citing a prepared decree of the Russian government.

“State and municipal bodies of Russia are already obliged to use domestic software, but at the same time, components of foreign production may be present in formally Russian systems,” the publication explains.

One of the developers of the resolution, Arseny Sheltsin, said that the innovation is “a response to the IT blockade of Crimea,” which should “reduce the likelihood of solutions dependent on foreign manufacturers being included in the register, and thereby increase independence and sovereignty.”
