This is stated in a message from the press service of the head of state.
“It’s okay that in Ivano-Frankivsk and Kharkov, in Zaporozhye and Ternopil region we will celebrate our common holidays in different ways. Holidays should unite, not divide. That is why we will not allow provocateurs in Odessa, Kharkov, Kyiv, or Western Ukraine to demonstrate a split in the state, which in reality does not exist,” the message says.
As you know, in order to unite society around the holiday, this year the military parade on May 9 has been canceled in Kiev, and veterans on this day are strongly advised not to wear St. George ribbons, and in a number of regions any rallies and processions dedicated to the holiday have been banned.
In addition, in Western Ukrainian regions, where local authorities are represented by the Svoboda party, May 9 has been officially called the Day of Mourning and Reconciliation at the local level for many years in a row, and attempts by local veterans of the Great Patriotic War to walk along the streets of Western Ukrainian cities with Victory Banners are harshly suppressed by force way, as happened on May 9, 2011.
