Panamanian cargo ship sank near Sevastopol
A cargo ship flying the flag of Panama sank this morning 80 kilometers off the coast of Crimea within the borders patrolled by the Sevastopol rescue center. Interfax reports this with reference to the press service of Rosmorrechflot.
“At 6:43 Moscow time, the operational duty officer received a message from the Sevastopol sea rescue center that a distress signal had been received within the boundaries of their rescue area. The captain of the ship flying the flag of Panama said that the ship was in a dangerous condition and asked to remove the crew,” the source told the agency.

A Greek tanker approached the disaster site, which was outside Russian territorial waters, at 9:20. He took eight crew members from the ship - two Turkish citizens and six Azerbaijani citizens. The rescued sailors, together with their saviors, are heading to Novorossiysk.
According to Rosmorrechflot, the ship completely sank. A possible reason for the ship's heel may be displacement of the cargo. It is known to have been transporting scrap metal. Now it is buried at a depth of 1900 meters, there is no threat of contamination.
