OSCE will not investigate the shooting of Russian journalists
The OSCE SMM does not have the right to conduct investigations into the fact of shelling; they can only record it and provide details.
Deputy Head of the OSCE SMM Alexander Hug stated this during an emergency briefing in Donetsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In response to a question posed by independent journalist Patrick Lancaster about whether the OSCE SMM plans to respond in any way to the fact that yesterday, during shelling of DPR army positions, Oleg Mamiev , commander of the international brigade "Pyatnashka," was killed and a VGTRK journalist was wounded , Hug stated that the OSCE SMM will definitely record this incident.
“The question was whether the OSCE would investigate the case of the wounding of two journalists when the Pyatnashka commander was killed, and the answer is: we, of course, know about it. As soon as we manage to clarify the circumstances of this incident, we will, of course, highlight this in our reports, as we have done before. We establish the facts, and they are always in our reports.
But the OSCE SMM is not investigating because this is outside the scope of our mandate, which includes the fact-finding process. We will establish these facts provided we are given appropriate access. Once we have the results, they will be highlighted in the reports. You already know where to read them,” Hug explained.
