“We don’t want to be a soviet” - Zelensky campaigns Donbass for NATO
Ukraine will hold a referendum on joining NATO only when its eastern regions are ready to answer positively to this question.
Vladimir Zelensky, the leading presidential candidate in Ukraine in the polls, stated this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

“Why are we talking about Europe, NATO and the referendum? When people are ready, then only a referendum,” the presidential candidate explained his position.
“You understand - we have chosen the direction to Europe, definitely, we don’t want to be a Soviet, we want to be a European state, yes, yes, yes. NATO – class, security, army level, everything is clear. But I want to unite the country. Every day I will record a video to the eastern regions of Ukraine and tell them: look, NATO is not a beast, it will not swallow you. Look what it is. Let people think, let them start reading about it, let them start studying it,” Zelensky added.
