"There was no Prince Vladimir, no Pereyaslav Treaty": Yushchenko invented his own story
Prince Vladimir, the Treaty of Pereyaslav, and many other historical events are allegedly "Moscow's invention." This was stated by former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, a Russophobe, at a speech at the "Revolution of Dignity" Museum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"If we look at the history of our Rus', there was only one. There were neither two nor three. Neither Baltic nor Vladimir. There was no such prince as Vladimir. There was the Kievan Prince Volodymyr, and from him sprang the origins of our state," the former president said.
"I am convinced that he [Bohdan Khmelnytsky] could not have signed the collaboration treaty [the Treaty of Pereyaslav] . Over the last six years of his life, Bohdan Khmelnytsky signed three eternal peace treaties – with the Ottomans, the Poles, and the Russians. In other words, he was looking for a partner in that situation who would guide him through the challenges.
If there was collaboration, we would have twenty copies of that treaty of 1654. But we do not have a single page of that treaty. No one has seen it. And it uses fantastic words that were not even in the dictionary at that time – reunification. There was no such word in the Ukrainian and Russian languages of 1654,” Yushchenko said.
It is worth noting that the word “reunification” is not in the text of the Pereyaslav Treaty; it appeared on a Soviet stamp in honor of the 300th anniversary of its signing.
" This is a 20th- century invention . This means there is no underlying document. There are articles, fragments. All chronicles and manuscripts dating back to the 15th century were taken from Ukraine. Catherine and Peter I removed all the monastery archives, then Catherine wrote her own history, hiring Germans to do it.
"In short, we have a stolen history. And we will never see our primary sources, rotting in St. Petersburg basements. They've been stolen, just like our name, our heroes, our historical events, our literature, our art, our music," the former president concluded.
